So, there's professional wrestling, which I've already defended on the main page. I, if I had to choose, am a WWF fan. Currently, the WWF is miles ahead of WCW (the other main organization) when it comes to storylines and keeping my interest. Not necessarily in talent, but remember, like in anything, it's not the amount of talent that matters, it's how you use it. Proving this theory right now is ECW, better known as Extreme Championship Wrestling. ECW is the third largest wrestling promotion right now, I'd say, and offers up shows on pay-per-view along with the "big boys". I finally get to see it again on MSG, so I'll be happy watching borderline talent work their asses off.
Now, there's e-wrestling. E-Wrestling. What the hell is it?
Excellent question, and not an easy one to answer. I'll tell you what it is in MY eyes, and although opinions may differ, just remember, I'm the sane one.
E-wrestling is a game played through the internet by wrestling fans. Most wrestling fans have wanted to work in some aspect of professional wrestling, just as many movie buffs would like to be filmmakers, or baseball fans would want to play for the New York Yankees. E-wrestling is an outlet for that desire. Participants in e-wrestling come in the form of handlers (who control the various wrestlers and managers), fedheads (who organize the various leagues, write up the cards, at least for the mostpart, and determine who wins and loses), and the writers (who do all the dirty work, writing out the matches that the fedhead can't, or won't, do). Often, the three roles get interchanged, as fedheads for one fed become handlers in another, and so on.
In order to be a successful e-wrestler, it helps to be a good writer, with a good imagination. E-wrestlers are never actually "seen", they're just described in words; so the better you can describe your wrestler and his surroundings, the more noticable he's going to be. Matches in most feds are won my writing Roleplays, or Flashes. These are small senerios written out by the handler to describe an interview or promo taking place. The better these Roleplays and Flashes are, generally, the more your wrestler will win. This is not always the case, but that's an entirely different subject. Also helpful in making a successful e-wrestler is the use of Strats (short for strategies), which are used match to match to set up senerios, different entrances, spotsduring the match, and a basic plan of action against your particular opponent. Put all this together, with a lot of imagination, and you've got a successful e-wrestler.
Now, how do you get into e-wrestling? Well, hell if I know. The way to get in is to scour the net for feds. Yahoo and other search engines for the billions of e-feds out there. Another way to find them is to search the Usenet. Rec.sport.pro-wrestling.fantasy is an entire newsgroup dedicated to e-wrestling. There are always feds looking for wrestlers there, and that's how you develop your character so you can get into the major feds.
Now, what about me? Well, I dabble in this fine art as well, otherwise I wouldn't have written so damn much. Below are links to my various e-wrestling characters, how I started them, whom (if anyone) they're based on, and where they are now. There will also be links to the various feds that they compete, or competed in on their respective pages. Enjoy, and good luck. (Note: They're not up right now...give it time.)
